FAQs
Why should I have a HMUA for my wedding?
Having a wedding HMUA (hair and makeup artist) like myself with you on your special day gives you a skilled, experienced friend by your side. I know how to best time the day and when to have different people in the chair to ensure the morning flows seamlessly, that timing is accurate and best for everyone’s enjoyment and planning. I know how to problem solve if products or hair styling are not working correctly. I’m super calm under pressure and WILL problem solve for you. I’ve worked with many photographers, florist and other wedding morning vendors and know the drill. I can keep you calm and keep spirits high - whatever you need, I’ll read the room and keep things flowing. Read my ABOUT page for more details on who I am as an artist, and what you can expect on the day.
I don’t wear or want much makeup should I still have a MUA?
This is such a common question and one of the most misunderstood aspects of hiring a makeup artist. To start with, I ADORE understated makeup looks, however, don’t confuse ‘soft and natural makeup’ with barely any product that only takes 15 minutes to apply. Each client receives a full face prep with tailored hydration to their skin needs. This provides a flawless base for any makeup style to have a ‘lit from within’ look. I then create your desired coverage, glow and contour in carefully applied layers. The goal is to create a skin-like finish that doesn’t feel heavy or cakey and enhances your natural features.
How do I book you for my wedding?
Jump onto the ‘Contact’ page and fill in as many details as you can for your wedding. From there we can discuss details like if I have your date available (yay) and what the next steps will be. For wedding and group bookings a non-refundable/non-transferable booking fee is required and outlined in your invoice. Once this is paid, your booking is secure.
Do I require a minimum number of services and do you travel?
For any bookings with LESS than 4 services, they take place at my studio in Wongawilli. For any bookings of 4 or more services (including any combination of hair/makeup), I travel to you. This will incur a travel fee dependent on distance and time restraints. For weddings I will always travel to your location.
Travel area: As far north as Miranda, south to Bawley Point and into all areas of the Southern Highlands.
Can I book both hair and makeup for my wedding/event?
Absolutely, I do both hair and makeup styling and love taking bookings for either, or a combination of both. Depending on the booking size I will let you know how many services I am able to take on board. Each booking will have a maximum of 7 services I can do alone (this number is dependent on ceremony time), if more services are required I will organise another artist to assist (I work with some other stella HMUAs).
How long does each service take?
On average, both hair and makeup services take 60 minutes each. For wedding bookings, I provide a detailed run sheet and set times for services on your invoice (keep an eye out for it). For studio bookings, I allocate a 60 minute window for each service you have booked.
Should my mum get her makeup or hair done for my wedding?
I get asked this a lot! Most of the time mother’s of the bride (MOB) don’t want to make a fuss and assume that the makeup for weddings will not suit more mature skin. Having your mum sit in my makeup chair is such an honour and a great time of the morning. I chat through what kind of look they are hoping to achieve, any skin concerns or areas they would like to highlight, what they will be wearing and what makes them feel most confident. Generally speaking, I will tone down a MOB/MOG look to a glowing base, subtle cream blush and bronzer, a brow look of their choosing and some eye definition (lashes are always a beautiful idea - individual ones are the way to go).
Mums are also more than welcome to come along with you to your trial and have their makeup done too. A beautiful chance to break the ice and see what their look may be before the big day.
Should I provide inspo pictures before my appointment?
Yes, yes, yes! I recommend a few of the following for bridal enquiries: my own own work, a photo of you with makeup or hair when you felt amazing, and external artists’ work. Providing these images helps ensure that we are both on the same page and can help me, help you to visualise a look.
It’s also important to be both realistic about what is achievable (i.e. not bringing in super edited or photoshopped images) and knowing your style and what makes you feel most confident. If you are happy for me to help, I love hearing about your styling choices for the big day and helping decide what look may work best for you.
Booking and Additional Fees?
I require a $150.00 non-refundable / non-transferable booking fee for wedding and group bookings, due 48 hours after I send your invoice. This locks in your booking date and guarantees the day is set aside just for your booking, meaning I am not rushing off-site for another client. This is deducted from the final invoice amount.
There are associated fees with early starts if I am required onsite before 7am (this all depends on the number of services, ceremony start time and travel considerations). This will all be outlined in your invoice and discussed with you directly.
If there is a large booking where another artist is required or requested by you, then an additional artist fee is charge to cover admin time.
What brands do you use?
My hair and makeup kit is full of some absolutely knock-out products and brands. Makeup favs (Charlotte Tilbury, Nars, MAC, Stilla, Fenty, Mecca Max, Morphe); Hair favs (White Sands, Moroccan Oil, Jaye Hair Co, GHD, Silver Bullet, Cloud 9).
I use mostly individual lashes (HAVA and Modelrock) and a selection of soft, wispy strip lashes to ensure they are super lightweight, comfortable and natural looking.
